About This Video

In this video I’m checking out the Blink Mini 2K Plus, which is the third-gen in the Blink Mini lineup, and I’m answering the big question: is it actually worth upgrading? I’ve reviewed the first and second gen Minis before, so I’m comparing what’s new here—mainly the jump to 2K resolution (vs the Mini 2’s 1080p) plus improved image quality thanks to local tone mapping. You also get longer recording clips (up to 60 seconds), a built-in LED spotlight for color night vision, and they’ve improved the two-way audio a lot with noise cancellation. I also show sample footage in daytime and at night with and without the spotlight, so you can see how it handles shadows, close-ups, and motion blur when you’re moving around. One of the more useful “bonus” features is you can use the Mini 2K Plus as a chime for the Blink Video Doorbell—since not having a chime is a common complaint. My final take: it’s a nice little budget-friendly camera with solid upgrades, but Blink severely limits you if you don’t pay for the subscription—because person/vehicle detection and the premium stuff like cloud clips and Blink Moments (their event stitching between cameras) are locked behind that monthly plan.
