About This Video

I’ve been using Canon PTZ cameras for a while now, and they’re fantastic. I’ve used both the $2,000 and $5,000 Canon hardware controllers and I like them—but I also know that for churches, saving even $1,000 is a big deal. So in this video I walk through the free tools that ship with the Canon PTZ ecosystem: the built-in web interface and Canon’s Remote Camera Control Application. The goal is simple—if your cameras are on the network, there’s really no reason to not learn these tools. I start by downloading the Remote Camera Control Application from Canon’s support page, scanning the network for cameras, and connecting (including why you want to enter credentials so you can access the “full” set of features). From there I show how to manage up to 20 cameras, pull up live thumbnails, control PTZ movement, focus, zoom, exposure, ND filters, white balance, sharpness, and presets—including my favorite feature: “freeze image during movement.” I also cover exporting/importing camera lists, camera power controls, keyboard shortcuts, and why some settings are grayed out (like recording—these PTZs don’t record to SD). Finally, I jump into the browser/webpage controls for deeper settings like audio input (scratch mic tips), pan/tilt limits, networking, security, add-ons like auto-tracking, and maintenance/firmware. The web UI works, but for real production I still prefer physical buttons—so I point you toward StreamDeck + Bitfocus Companion if you want a better control experience.
