About This Video

In this video I walk you through a conference-room style AV control system I built for three multi-purpose rooms at First Friends Church. When I showed up, the rooms already had projectors, screens, and ceiling speakers—but the old VGA/analog control situation made something as simple as plugging in a laptop a pain. So I rebuilt the whole workflow around a clean front-of-room HDMI input for each room, and I put a Stream Deck controller in each space so normal users can simply pick the room, pick the source, and turn volume up or down without ever touching the switcher or the mixer. I explain two operating modes: single room mode (each room is independent) and full room mode (all rooms act like one big room when the walls open up). Under the hood, BitFocus Companion is the “secret sauce” that ties everything together over the network—controlling a Blackmagic ATEM 1ME Constellation for video routing and a Behringer X32 Rack for audio routing/levels. I also show how I build custom Companion pages for specific groups (like women’s Bible study) with hidden actions and automation, so the system gets even simpler and I’m not constantly doing tech support. Finally, I break down the core hardware, SDI/HDMI conversion, wireless mic integration, and optional Dante networking.
