About This Video

Blackmagic Design makes a ton of switchers, but in this video I walk through 10 features that make the ATEM Constellation series a really strong buy for the money—especially if you’re comparing something like a Constellation 1 M/E against an ATEM Mini Extreme. The Constellation doesn’t do USB recording or built-in streaming/encoding, but what you get instead is serious switching horsepower: 10 SDI inputs, lots of assignable SDI outputs, a dedicated multiview output, and front buttons. For church production, that tradeoff can be totally worth it depending on your system. I cover my favorite workflow wins: fully customizable multiview layouts (4, 10, 16 boxes—whatever you want), network control with Stream Deck + Bitfocus Companion (including feedback so your buttons tell you what’s actually in program), and built-in scalers on every input so mismatched resolutions/frame rates aren’t a dealbreaker. I also hit the “don’t forget this” stuff like saving your startup state so your switcher boots the way you expect after a reboot. Then we get into the fun tools: SuperSource for multi-box layouts (great for panels and Zoom guests), using macros to recall complex looks instantly, and why AUX outputs are a huge deal because they’re fully assignable. Finally, I show how labels keep you organized and why rack-mount Constellations usually mean you’ll want a control surface—or you can run a killer setup with a couple Stream Deck XLs.
