Lighting Universes help Organize Fixture Channels so we can control Fixture Parameters from a Lighting Software. In this video we are explaining how Church Stage Lighting works and what you need to know to get your fixtures connected to your system. We will start with simple 1 channels Lights, then 3 channel RGB lights, and 18+ Moving Lights, LED Strip and why each fixture needs more channels patched into the lighting software. About This Video

In this training I break down DMX universes in a way that actually makes sense for church stage lighting. A “universe” is just a block of 512 control channels in the DMX protocol, and those channels can be sent over 3‑pin or 5‑pin DMX cable, or over the network using ArtNet or sACN. The big takeaway is that every fixture “consumes” channels based on how many parameters it has: a dumb dimmer light might use 1 channel, an RGB LED uses 3 channels (red/green/blue), and a moving head can easily use 18 channels in its minimum mode because it’s doing intensity, color, pan/tilt, zoom, and more. I also explain why modern systems run out of channels fast—especially with LED tape/pixels where each pixel takes 3 channels—so you end up needing multiple universes (think: more buses when you run out of seats). From there I show how daisy chaining works for both DMX and PowerCon, why planning your universe distribution matters, and where DMX nodes fit when you want to send ArtNet/sACN over Ethernet and break it back out into multiple DMX outputs. Finally, I connect the dots on how lighting control can also trigger software like Resolume Arena and even ProPresenter, which is where things get really fun for creative stage designs.
