About This Video

At my church, we just replaced 22 old incandescent stage fixtures with six Chauvet R2X VW wash fixtures for front light, and it’s been a massive upgrade. They’re brighter, they run way cooler, they use less power, and I’m not living the “bulb replacement” life anymore. In this video I walk through the full project—why we made the change, what we installed, and the real-world reasons this mattered for a church that meets in a gym and has to transform the room multiple times every week. I also get super practical: how I hung the fixtures (man lift + reusing clamps), how I handled constant power (no dimmer power—because bad things happen), and how I ran DMX by daisy-chaining from an existing line. Then I show how I’m programming positions and looks in Vista 3 so my volunteers can basically just click through the service cues while the system handles intensity, positions, and even triggers our Resolume setup for the LED stage design. Finally, I share my worst mistakes—like not understanding how the fixtures would “spin” to reach a new position, and learning how to move them in the dark so the audience doesn’t see a bunch of distracting motion.
