In this video, I’m sewing with my friend Judi and we’re doing one of my favourite kinds of projects: taking something that’s *almost* useful (two linen pillowcases) plus a handful of scrap fabric samples, and turning it into a dress she’ll actually reach for. I walk you through how I think about layout and fabric use when you don’t have “proper yardage,” and how to let the existing pillowcase seams and hems do some of the work so the finish still looks intentional. This is very much a beginner-friendly upcycle: we’re keeping the shapes simple, focusing on fit where it matters, and using the scraps as design details instead of trying to pretend they’re invisible. If you’ve ever looked at pillowcases and thought, “Okay… now what?” this is your sign. The big takeaway is that you can get a really wearable garment by combining thrifted linens with small pieces you already have—especially if you press well, measure carefully, and make a few smart construction choices along the way.
