About This Video

In this video I’m turning three thrifted men’s shirts into one cozy kimono-style bathrobe—aka the kind of upcycle that looks fancy but is actually super beginner-friendly. I walk you through how I plan the layout, piece the shirts together into simple tiers, and use what’s already there (like shirt hems and button plackets) so we’re not reinventing the wheel. This is one of those projects where pressing as you go makes everything look a hundred times more professional, even if you’re new. I also show you my favourite little details: pockets made from shirt sleeves (because why waste perfectly good fabric?), clean sleeve and neckbands, a tie belt, belt loops, and a hanging loop so it feels like a “real” robe. The big takeaway is that you don’t need a pattern to make something wearable—you just need a plan, a few straight seams, and patience with your pressing. And if you’re making this from someone’s old shirts, it can be a really meaningful memory project, too.
