About This Video

In this video I’m on a full-on sweater rescue mission—because sometimes you find a glorious 70s sweater-jacket that’s basically yelling “save me” from the landfill. I pair it with a weird pair of jeans (you know the kind… potential, but confusing) and turn the whole situation into one of my favourite love-story upcycles yet. This is a very “trust the process” project: I’m focusing on fit, function, and making the final piece feel like something I’ll actually reach for, not just something that was “a good idea in theory.” I also talk through the handwork side of things—specifically sashiko-style stitching and the tools that make it way less frustrating. If you’ve ever tried stitching through thicker layers and thought, “why is this so hard?”, I’ve got you. The big takeaway: you don’t need a perfect starting garment, you need a solid plan, a few reliable supplies, and the willingness to let two almost-items become one favourite. This is exactly the kind of upcycle that makes me love sewing—saving textiles, fixing fit, and ending up with something that feels like me.
