In this week’s vlog, I’m sharing a quick little life-and-sewing update—what I’ve got coming up, what I’m thinking about making next, and the kinds of ideas that are currently tugging at my sleeve. But the real heart of this video is a question I think we all bump into (especially if you sew, thrift, upcycle, or design): where does “inspiration” end and “copying” begin? I walk through the sources of inspiration I personally love—things like nature, architecture, vintage details, and artists/designers who clearly have a point of view. And then I talk about the kinds of inspiration that can get a bit… sticky. Because there’s a fine line between learning from a silhouette, a construction detail, or a color story—and recreating someone else’s work so closely that it stops being yours. My big takeaway is this: it’s totally okay to be inspired, but I want to be honest about what I’m borrowing, I want to transform it through my own choices, and I want to avoid using another maker’s work as a shortcut.
