In this video I’m taking one of my favourite thrift-store “why do brands do this?” moments—fake pockets—and turning it into something actually useful. I found a thrifted sweater/jacket with a pocket flap that was purely decorative, and I show you how I add a hidden pocket underneath that original flap so it still looks intentional from the outside, but functions like a real pocket. It’s one of those small upgrades that makes a piece go from “almost” to “I’ll actually wear this all the time.” I walk through the basic approach: assessing the garment so you don’t distort the front, choosing a pocket bag fabric that won’t add bulk, and working carefully around the existing flap so the outside stays clean. The big takeaway is that you don’t need to fully redesign the garment to make it better—you can work with what’s already there and sneak in function.
