Only 4 spots left for London in May 2026! Join me for an unforgettable Sustainable Fashion Tour! https://tinyurl.com/travelwithCatherine Join my online sewing community: skool.com/catherinessewingroom/about In this video, I take a thrifted sweater and give it a whole new personality using reverse appliqué—a technique that looks high-end but is surprisingly doable at home. ✂️✨ I start by showing how to alter the fit of a knit sweater, because knits don’t have to be intimidating (I promise!). Then I dive into the design process, including a brilliant viewer suggestion: photocopying the sweater and cutting “windows” in the paper to help audition appliqué colours before committing. Game changer. To make the reverse appliqué process even easier and more precise, I create my design in Canva and print it onto stick-on, wash-away stabilizer, which keeps everything stable while sewing and disappears like magic when you’re done. This is such a fun, low-waste way to elevate a basic thrifted sweater and add thoughtful, custom details. I absolutely love how this one turned out—and I hope it encourages you to experiment with knits and try reverse appliqué for yourself. If you enjoy creative upcycling, sweater hacks, and turning thrifted finds into one-of-a-kind pieces, you’re in the right place. 💙 Pellon Stick-N-Wash Away Stabilizer - US: https://amzn.to/45niKRp Canada: https://amzn.to/4p7Bxat 💖 Affiliate Links & Sewing Tools I Love 🖤 LDH Scissors – My absolute favourite Canadian scissors!
