About This Video

Overthinking can feel like this huge personality trait, but in this video I share why I don’t actually think it has to define you. I talk about how so many of us are subtly hyperventilating (or barely breathing at all) throughout the day, and how that kind of breathing pattern fuels the “monkey mind.” The way you’re breathing is the way you’re thinking—so if your breath is shallow and rushed, your thoughts tend to follow. My biggest takeaway: diaphragmatic breathing is the cure to overthinking, and I will stand on that hill. When you take even five slow breaths, you start to calm the nervous system (aka the mind) and the “mountain” your brain created can suddenly feel more manageable. I also share my favorite reframe: the lungs are plugged into the mind—inhale expands, exhale releases—so deeper breaths lead to deeper, clearer thoughts. If you’re not sure where to start, I keep it simple: bring awareness to your breath and focus on your exhales. We spend so much time receiving and doing—learning to fully let it go creates space for the next inhale to be softer, steadier, and more medicinal for your mind and body.
