I just got a FedEx delivery from Hoss Tools that was supposed to be my fall broccoli and cauliflower seedlings, and honestly…I’m kind of speechless. I’ve never ordered starts like this before, and when I opened the box I couldn’t even tell which way was up. The packaging looked like it had gotten a little wet, the seedlings were super tiny, and for $2 a piece, they just looked kind of sad and crappy if you ask me. In this video I go through what showed up—Twister cauliflower and Green Magic broccoli—and share my first impression (which is mostly concern). It’s still too hot for me to put these in the ground right away, so my plan is to keep them wet and then, this evening, find a spot in my mess of a garden and get them planted. I’m not writing them off yet because plants can be pretty hardy, and a friend told me these varieties grew well for her, but I’m definitely questioning whether ordering fall plants online was a mistake. I also ask you to tell me if you’ve tried shipping starts like this and how it went.
