About This Video

Hey everyone, it’s Bridget from BB’s Beasties, and in this video I finally did the thing that’s been intimidating me for way too long: I converted two of my enclosures to bioactive—Smeagol my crested gecko, and Putty my chubby frog. I kept it super simple on purpose because I’ve never done bioactive before and I didn’t want to go all-out with custom backgrounds or anything major. They’re not “wow” builds, but they are bioactive, with live plants that’ll (hopefully) grow in over time. One big choice I made was skipping a drainage layer. I used Josh’s Frogs BioBedding, which doesn’t require one if you’re just hand-misting like I do, so I wasn’t worried about things getting swampy. I also talk about the “proper” method of letting a bioactive setup establish before adding your animal… and I didn’t do that. I’m letting mine establish with the animals in, and I’m spot-cleaning daily for now. Plus, you get to see my plant unboxing, my first time working with isopods and springtails (I was low-key obsessed), and my very on-brand moment where I changed Putty’s setup two days later and ordered more plants.
