About This Video

In this review I’m taking a look at the Dunu Talos, and it’s one of the more interesting IEM concepts I’ve used in a while. It’s a chunky little monkey, but it’s also a good-looking one: all-metal shell, teardrop face design, clean ventilation, and a really premium finish with the gold-on-black styling. Fit-wise, the side protrusion looks scary on photos, but in my ears it actually sits above the tragus/antitragus so it doesn’t get in the way like some other big planars can. The “party trick” is the switch. The Talos uses a big 14.6mm planar driver plus dual balanced armatures, and that switch lets you run it as pure planar (BA off) or hybrid (BA on). That genuinely gives you two distinct tunings: planar-only is more laid back and refined up top, while hybrid adds more pop and energy in the treble. Overall the tuning comes across neutral and smooth, with excellent midrange and the kind of separation and staging you want from planar—just don’t expect huge deep rumble or thick mid-bass texture. At around $170, the value is kind of wild when you factor in the accessories: the packaging feels special, the case is great, you get loads of quality tips, and the included Dunu cable is honestly incredible. You’re not getting the “creepy 3D holographic” thing I still chase from my Tin HiFi P1, but you are getting a very well-built, very versatile IEM that sounds genuinely special for the money.
