Hopefully, not everyone's set comes with this cable and it was just a mistake on my set. If not these are probably doomed. The pictures I have seen of this earphone do not have such a bold mistake and they have probably just grabbed the wrong cable out of the parts bin. So even if its not the standard cable (and probably isn't) it brings in a lot of questions about quality control. However, at the same time as this review, there are a lot of very good IEM's at this price point and the TRN X7 falls into the category of OK but nothing more.
