About This Video

Good God—if you thought balanced armature IEMs were dead, this video is basically my proof that they’re not. I’m taking a close look at the Kiwi Ears Orchestra Lite, a full BA set (8 drivers per side) that’s hitting the market in a time where everyone’s distracted by tribrids, hybrids, planars, and all the “crazy stuff.” I love BA timbre when it’s done right, and this one absolutely nails that slightly warm, balanced/neutral tuning that keeps things engaging without going cold or sterile. I also spend time on the design and build, because it’s honestly one of the best-looking IEMs I’ve had all year. The transparent housing, the way the driver array is presented, the faceplate depth, and even the three boreholes—this thing is just fascinating to stare at. Sonically, the midrange detail retrieval is spectacular, imaging is easy and uncluttered, and treble extension stays clean without that nasty BA “shine.” Bass is controlled with decent depth and extension, but it’s not for bassheads—if your life is EDM/hip-hop rumble, look elsewhere. For mixed genres (rock, jazz, classical, etc.), it’s ridiculously versatile, and it punches way above its weight—especially if you upgrade the stock cable and run it balanced.
