About This Video

In this video I’m reviewing (and rating) all of the rotations I’ve done so far in my 4th year clinical year at OVC. Fourth year is completely hospital-based, and if I’m being honest, I didn’t truly understand how it worked until I was actually living it—so I wanted to break down what each rotation involves, what the responsibilities are (including on-call), and whether I’d recommend it if you’re planning your schedule. I go through neurology (7/10), ophthalmology (9/10), small animal shelter surgery (8/10), anatomic pathology (5–6/10), a humane society shelter medicine elective (8/10), anesthesia (7/10—shockingly), a dentistry elective with a mobile dentist (10/10, hands down my favorite), emergency & critical care (strong 7/10), oncology (8/10 and amazing for communication/quality of life convos), and small animal surgery (8/10—soft tissue + ortho, long days, and yes I placed a bone screw). My biggest takeaway: clinical year has been the best year of vet school because it’s so hands-on, and the supportive teams (and my classmates) make even the tougher rotations doable. If you’re an OVC student ranking rotations, I hope this gives you a realistic picture of workload, learning value, and work-life balance.
