Happy Saturday, guys — in this weekend “day in the life of a vet,” I’m taking you with me for one of my every-third-Saturday shifts. My contract is honestly kind of ideal: appointments are only booked from 9–12, and when I work the Saturday, I get the Friday afternoon off. I got in about 15–20 minutes early like I usually do to check the schedule, make a plan, and touch base with the team. The morning ended up being super chill: I had a no-show (which gave me time to crush my call-backs), saw a new puppy, an eye infection, an arthritis talk + Librela injection, and a coughing dog — plus my last slot didn’t get filled so I got records done and left on time. After work, I headed to PetSmart because I’ve officially decided I’m embarking on a betta fish adventure. I had a betta as a kid and… let’s just say I did not do it right (no heater, no filter, not the right setup), so this is me trying to redeem my younger self and give one a really good home. I share my 5-gallon tank setup (minimum for a betta), the low-flow filter, heater, water conditioner, and how I’m starting the cycling process (they recommend about a month before adding the fish). Then it’s a little real-life reset: dog time with Link, a quick Peloton ride, leftovers for dinner, and ending the night with my 2024 reading goal (15 books!).
