Happy Wednesday friends — welcome to my day off vlog as a new grad small animal vet in Canada. I truly will die on this hill: Wednesdays are the ultimate day off (better than Friday, better than Monday). In this video I’m taking you through what my “catch-up day” actually looks like: slow morning coffee, cleaning the kitchen, organizing under the sink, running errands, groceries for meal prepping, and trying (and kind of failing) to tackle a big furniture project. I also talk about the mental exhaustion that comes with new grad life — the part where you’re not physically tired, but your brain is just done from working through cases, building treatment plans, and then waking up at 4 a.m. spiraling about call-backs, surgery, and whether you calculated the right antibiotic dose. I watch a webinar on the canine respiratory virus going around (because we’re getting questions in clinic and I want to stay up to date), then I wrap up with Taco Wednesday, laundry, and a very important Survivor night. My biggest takeaway for other new grads: take time during the week to do things that bring you joy. Work can be all-consuming, and the “did I do everything right?” paranoia can follow you home — so I’ve been really intentional about finding peace in the little things (for me: a clean home, some movement, and a chill reset night before heading back in).
