About This Video

Happy Monday besties — in this day in the life, I’m taking you through a very real third-year vet student day: coffee, Link (my puppy), online lectures, and the looming panic of final exams being two weeks away. I also talk about how getting COVID (like… everyone got COVID) messed with our schedule and cancelled some key hands-on stuff, including a surgery I was supposed to do. On the bright side, we finished our very last midterm ever, which is honestly wild (someone calculated we’ve written 64 midterms in three years… insane). The main event is our ophthalmology procedures lab, and I’m not exaggerating when I say it was one of my favorite labs I’ve ever done in vet school. I walk you through the five procedures we practiced on cadavers and why we’d do them in practice: temporary tacking sutures for entropion, the Hotz-Celsus procedure for permanent entropion correction, a temporary tarsorrhaphy for proptosis, a wedge resection for eyelid masses, and then the coolest one hands down — enucleation. I also share what surprised me most (eyelid tissue is SO hard to suture) and why I have a whole new respect for ophthalmologists after trying to do tiny, high-precision work. Then it’s back to studying for finals… because of course it is.
