About This Video

In this video I’m taking you along for a day in the life of my six-month-old golden retriever puppy, Link—aka a very accurate look at what it’s like having a puppy while I’m in vet school. I’ve gotten this question so much, and honestly the best way to explain the chaos/cuteness balance is just to show you our routine. Link usually starts his day around 7:30–8:00 with breakfast, outside for a bathroom break, and then a solid 45-minute power nap (because yes, he loves to sleep). We had a jam-packed weekend day planned to make up for the fact that I’m starting externship and I’m not home with him during the week like I used to be. First big ā€œfirstā€: we went to my parents’ house and took Link swimming for the first time. He did so well once he realized he had to actually move his legs, and he got more confident when he figured out the pool stairs (and the floatie). After his post-swim snooze, I did a little grooming/pawdicure moment—brush + nail trim—and then Link helped me review Healthybud treats. As a vet student, I’m super aware of things like joint health and keeping an ideal weight (especially with a big dog), so I’m always looking for healthier treat options that still feel high-reward. We finished the day with a big park walk at the arboretum to get his energy out and set us up for a good night’s sleep.
