About This Video

Hey guys, in this video I’m officially a fourth year vet student (which still feels weird to say), and I’m breaking down what my clinical year at OVC actually looks like. I walk you through how streaming works (small animal, rural community practice, equine, or food animal) and why I’m streaming small animal because I’m a small animal girl through and through. Then I go over the structure of fourth year: 11 core rotations you just have to do, plus 12 open weeks where you can tailor things to your interests either at OVC or at an external clinic. I also explain the big non-negotiable for everyone at OVC: the eight-week mixed animal externship. Even though I’m going into small animal practice, I’m heading out on farm calls and getting hands-on experience with cows, horses, and whatever else comes through. On top of all of that, I’m starting NAVLE prep with VetPrep and aiming for the November/December testing window (probably late November), using the six-month plan as my pacing guide—because I need something that makes this whole process feel less stressful. To wrap it up, I bring you along while I prep for day one: forms, what I’m packing (stethoscope, pens, notebooks, safety glasses, iPad), and my large animal setup in the car with steel-toed boots and coveralls. I’m excited, a little nervous, and very ready to be done with classroom learning and finally get into real clinical work.
