About This Video

In this video, I’m walking you through my entire filming process for YouTube vlogs—basically everything I’ve learned after switching to long-form vlogging about a year ago. I’m not a filmmaker and I didn’t come from a filming background, so this is the exact “I learned it the hard way” workflow that helped me stay consistent and make my vlogs feel more intentional without overcomplicating it. I also share how my guide (The YouTube Blueprint to Better Vlogs) fits into this, but this video stays focused on filming. I start with how I make a filming plan in three steps: capturing ideas in a Notes app, conceptualizing on paper (my A5 Midori notebook obsession), and then organizing everything digitally in Milanote like a bulletin board so I can actually see the video come to life. Then I get into the practical filming tweaks that make vlogging easier: shooting 24fps with a 1/50 shutter for a cinematic “real life” look, keeping color simple (no DLOG), setting custom white balance for consistency, and using ISO limits so I’m not fighting my settings all day. Finally, I talk about creating a filming space with personality (warm tones, cozy lamps, little intentional details), and how I film chronologically using “key scenes” + B-roll. I also break down the shot angles I always try to grab—establishing, wide, medium, close-up, and extreme close-up—so the vlog feels dynamic and cozy instead of flat.
