About This Video

I’m taking you along on my very first road trip ever—driving from Chicago to Atlanta with my mom and my 할머니 (Harmony) and making a stop in Nashville in between. It’s a super go-with-the-flow, three-generation kind of trip (aka: we left with basically nothing planned), so I’m sharing the little prep routines that keep me calm—like making a packing list ahead of time, whipping up a salted hojicha latte, and yes… overpacking my camera gear because I hate being unprepared when I’m filming. A big theme of this vlog is reconnecting with my grandma through the language barrier. I’ve always felt a little left out of parts of my culture because I can’t speak Korean, and our interactions sometimes turn into charades—but this trip genuinely motivated me to finally commit to learning. I share how I’ve been using Rosetta Stone in tiny pockets of time (instead of scrolling), and how even learning something as simple as colors actually helped me communicate on the trip (and made for some funny moments). In Nashville, we try Hattie B’s hot chicken and go cowboy boot browsing, then settle into a slower, more restful Atlanta pace. The biggest takeaway for me was realizing my grandma understands me more than I expected—there was this really sweet moment where she basically read my thoughts—and it made me feel less embarrassed about learning imperfectly. I’m calling it now: this is my year to learn Korean.
