About This Video

In this video I’m tackling some long overdue, truly emergent plant chores—the kind that need to happen before a few of these plants meet their demise. I start by unboxing a big order of self-watering pots I’ve never tried before, and honestly…the packaging felt so bougie. The system is pretty clever: a clear inner insert (so I can actually see what’s going on), a hidden reservoir to help with algae, and a water gauge that’s way more subtle than the ones that stick out of the pot. I’m not ready to recommend them yet, but I am excited to test them. Then we get into the repot chaos: I move several begonias into LECA (mini LECA is so cute and so much easier for small/fine roots), including a Breverimosa and a Milano ‘Bolada,’ plus I finally deal with my neglected philodendron gloriosum—sketchy soil-to-LECA transfer and all. I also pot up a philodendron micans that was already water-rooted (easy win), and I upsize a thirsty begonia lucerna situation so I’m not constantly chasing moisture. To wrap it up, I triage a struggling Hoya (wet soil for two weeks is never a good sign), switch it into a chunkier mix, and take a bunch of “insurance” cuttings in water. If you’re into semi-hydro, this one’s basically a cozy little progress report on what I’m trying right now—and why.
