About This Video

As we’re heading towards the new year, I wanted to do something simple: go through the only film gear I actually used this year. I’m not talking about a huge wishlist or stuff I tested once and forgot about—this is the gear that genuinely ended up on real projects. I cover my two main cameras (Lumix S5 and Lumix S1), the lenses I kept coming back to, my audio setup, ND filters, the laptop I edit on, and even the little bag that makes the whole “keep it minimal” thing possible. The Lumix S5 has been my workhorse for nearly everything. I love that I can shoot 4K 4:2:2 10-bit in H.264, get amazing IBIS, and have internal anamorphic support—without needing to rig it out with monitors, batteries, or a bunch of extra weight. The Lumix S1 is newer for me, but I’ve been loving 6K open gate and the slightly more organic feel I get from it, even if it’s bigger and heavier. Lens-wise, I basically live around 35mm. The Blazar Remus 35mm T1.6 1.5x has been my main anamorphic lens (surprisingly good for the money), and the TTArtisan 40mm F2 is my go-to “cheap but punches way above its price” travel lens. I also explain why I keep my focal lengths tight, how I record audio straight into camera with the DMW-XLR1, and why a used M1 MacBook can still cut a feature film in Resolve.
