About This Video

The last couple of weeks I’ve been using the 7Artisans 10mm f/2.8 II, and it’s honestly a pretty interesting lens—because it’s crazy wide, and that comes with both benefits and problems. In this video I break down the image quality, build quality, price/value, and what scenarios this lens actually makes sense for. I also did a proper “real world” vlog test in Berlin while attending the European Film Market, since I’m currently working on my next feature and wanted to see how usable this thing is when you’re out and about with a small setup. At 10mm you get a very distinct look: heavy barrel distortion and a fisheye vibe that will make your images stand out (whether that’s a good thing depends on the project). The lens is very sharp even at f/2.8, I didn’t see much chromatic aberration, and the close focus is borderline macro—which makes it super fun for weird, stylized shots. It’s also surprisingly stable handheld because it’s so wide, almost like “fake gimbal” shots. On the downside, it’s a bit big/heavy, it bulges out so you can’t use front filters, and it absolutely distorts faces—my girlfriend hates it for that exact reason.
