About This Video

I’ve been using the Panasonic Lumix S1 for a couple of months on real projects—promo work, YouTube, and some travel stuff—and I honestly think it’s one of the most insane value full-frame cameras you can buy right now. I picked mine up used for around $800 (and you can often see it closer to $700), which is wild considering it launched at about $2,500. Even though it’s an older body, it still competes with cameras that cost five times more in the areas that actually matter to me: image quality, stabilization, and practicality. In this video I go through why the S1 still holds up: the organic look (not overly sharpened or “clinical”), 6K open gate (great for vertical deliverables and anamorphic), solid V-Log with good latitude, and surprisingly strong dynamic range (around 12–13 stops). I also talk about how Lumix IBIS is basically world class, which lets me shoot handheld without rigging the camera out—and that keeps the total cost down. Then I cover the real downsides: bad autofocus (fine for me), 6K open gate limited to 24fps with a 50-minute limit, single SD slot, and a slower readout that can show rolling shutter. Finally, I share a real-world setup and two cheap, lightweight lenses (TTArtisan 40mm and 75mm) that pair really well with this camera.
