Enamel washes have been around for ages, and if you’re doing grimdark, AK Streaking Grime is basically the king of the jungle. In this video I put a new challenger—Villainy Inks—through its paces, going in pretty much blind (blind-adjacent). I’m a big fan of the reductive method: cover the mini, then take it back off with thinner so it stays in the recesses and you get those lovely streaks over panels. I tested Villainy Inks both through the airbrush and brushed on, and compared it directly to Streaking Grime as my baseline. I used Death Guard Terminators because, come on, they’re made for this. I primed brown, hit a zenithal with Tamiya Flat White, then went brighter than normal because grime dulls everything down hard. The big talking points: Villainy Inks look cool and the colour selection is genuinely interesting (Crimson especially), but I found them temperamental—gunk build-up, blocked pipettes, and a lot of shaking/stirring needed. In the end, I got some properly gross, grimy results and had a great time, but if you want something that just works out of the bottle, Streaking Grime is still the easy recommendation. Villainy can be more versatile if you’re willing to put the effort in.
