I went into Scream 7 actually kind of hopeful. The trailers looked fine, there were rumblings about Matthew Lillard coming back as Stu, and I’m telling you right now: this franchise needs that kind of charismatic, unhinged energy to feel alive again. Instead, Scream 7 gives me a Snapchat-level deepfake and calls it a day. And that’s basically my whole issue with the modern Scream movies—they’ve all started blending together, the killer motivations feel watered down, and it’s like they’re just making it up as they go. In this video I break down what’s gone wrong across the series and why Scream 7 is the lowest point for me. The movie looks overlit and overly digital, like an episode of Law & Order, and Kevin Williamson directing just didn’t work for me. The opening at Stu’s house-turned-Airbnb is the one thing I thought was kinda cool… until they burn it down for no reason and move on. And when the big reveal hits, it’s pure Scooby-Doo: the killers are basically “some crazy lady” and “some guy” from an asylum. I gave it an F—like a 2.5/10—and yeah, once Dewey died, this franchise kind of died too (at least for me).
