I watched the brand new movie Mercy (2026), the Amazon Prime Chris Pratt sci-fi thriller that, for some odd reason, got crapped out into theaters like it’s supposed to be some big event. And I’m telling you right now: this is the kind of movie that, back in 2005-2010, would’ve gone straight to DVD and ended up in the $5 Walmart bin next to your Tombstone pizza and Mountain Dew. The premise is a detective accused of murdering his wife, stuck in a 90-minute AI trial where the “judge” is an algorithm and he has to drop the burden of proof below 92% to live. On paper, I can work with that. For about 20–25 minutes, I didn’t hate it. It felt like a mediocre Black Mirror concept and it even gave me a tiny Demolition Man vibe—like, honestly, just remake that and you’d have a better movie. But Mercy keeps going, and the longer it runs, the more it collapses into convoluted, forced nonsense—especially once it piles on a terrorism/revenge subplot and turns into laughable action. Add in the AI judge glitching every five minutes, plot convenience cameras everywhere, and Chris Pratt basically having the entire LAPD on speed dial, and you’ve got the definition of a shitty January movie. I don’t recommend you ever watch it—this thing sucked really, really hard.
