Nowadays if you want to get anywhere in the UK youre generally jumping in the car!! Sometimes its not always feasible so I decided to travel all the way to The Isle of Mull from mid Wales using the train network and pedal power. There are many compromises to make on a trip like this including camera gear, clothing, accommodation, food etc,etc and I'll demonstrate this in the first part of this two part mini series. So grab a brew, sit back and watch as I load up my trusty steed, jump on several trains, board ferries and head for the magical Isle of Mull to hopefully capture some of the amazing wildlife that the Island has to offer. Also see how i contend with some choice Scottish Autumnal weather as we battle to not come home empty handed!! In the second of this 3 part mini series the weather closes in but we have some very memorable encounters with the stunning Mull otters. 2026 WILDLIFE CALENDARS * NOW AVAILABLE* FIND THEM ON THE TRAGOPAN UK WEBSITE TRAGOPAN UK WEBSITE https://tragopan-shop.uk HIDE WEBSITE https://simoneardleyphoto.wordpress.com BUY ME A COFFEE WEBSITE https://buymeacoffee.com/simoneardley FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA Get updates or reach out through social media! About This Video

In part two of my bikepacking trip to the Isle of Mull, the weather properly closes in and it turns into one of those days where you’re just thinking, “Right… we’re not getting the camera out today.” It absolutely hammered down all night, I ended up stuck in the tent for about 14 hours, and I had to start making the usual wet-weather compromises—tarp up, find shelter, keep kit as dry as possible, and just accept it’s going to be a bit grim. Even so, I still got out and worked the coastline for otters—this isn’t a masterclass, it’s basically “eyes on.” The beauty of doing it by bike is I can move slowly, stop anywhere, and scan the shore properly. I also tried using a thermal to help pick otters out when they’re tucked into kelp and almost invisible. The big takeaway is simple: keep your distance, let them wake up and hunt, then leapfrog ahead along the shoreline and give yourself a chance when they come in. Despite the miserable conditions (and a bit of a tent leak), I managed some cracking otter portraits, a few other bits like turnstones, and even a surprise hooper swan sighting on the roadside—proper memory bank stuff.
