How we doing folks? In this one I’m back home after Mull and it’s turned absolutely Baltic, so I nip up to the meadow hide for a few tweaks that make a real difference for both the birds and the people who book in. I refresh the mossy log pile, extend the pool area with a simple “forest floor” platform made from reclaimed barn timber, and I talk through why those little changes help the shots—especially in that last couple of hours when the hide gets cracking backlight. The big improvement is inside: I’ve changed the main front openings to solid ply screens with a viewing slot and a lens hole, so there’s far less chance of hands and movement giving you away. Buzzards are twitchy, and if you want them on the deck you’ve got to be disciplined—sit back, don’t touch the camera until they’re feeding, then move millimetre by millimetre. I also test the EcoFlow Delta 3 Plus power station as a permanent power source in the hide, and I’ve wired in two waterproof 7W LEDs for night work so I can just flick them on from inside. What started as a “quick one” turns into proper autumn light, a surprise double buzzard moment, and a few shots I’m well suited with.
