About This Video

Ever since I started shooting video, I’ve been on the hunt for a solid set of LUTs that look good on pretty much any footage and make grading log footage simple. I’m a photographer first, and while I actually enjoy color grading, I’m definitely not an expert—so I wanted something that could make my footage look great without spending hours tweaking. In this video, I break down the Phantom LUTs and why, for my workflow, they’re genuinely the only video LUTs I feel like I need. These LUTs are designed to give you that natural, cinematic, airy look—like it came out of an ARRI Alexa—with basically one click. I’m not saying they do everything for you (you still need correct exposure and white balance), but once you nail those basics, you really don’t have to do much beyond applying a LUT. I also talk about how using an external monitor with the LUTs pre-loaded has been a huge help for dialing in exposure and white balance in-camera. And if you want something more nostalgic, I cover the Phantom Film Look pack too—six film-stock-inspired LUTs that look amazing for a more filmic vibe. Between the two packs, I honestly don’t feel like I need anything else.
