In this video I’m talking about the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 (Sony E-mount) and answering the big question: is it still worth buying in 2025? This lens came out back in 2021, and I’ve personally been shooting with it for over a year now—so much so that I’m literally filming this video on it. It’s part of Sigma’s Art series, so it’s built to feel premium, and while it’s not “cheap” at around $1,000, it sits in a really sweet spot between the Sony 35mm f/1.8 and the way-more-expensive Sony 35mm f/1.4 G Master. The main reason I fell in love with it is the focal length. 35mm has become my favorite because it’s not too wide, but it’s wide enough to keep environment and context in your portraits, and it’s just a perfect walkaround prime. I originally bought it when my daughter was born because I wanted something I could shoot a ridiculous amount of photos with while still being close to her—and it absolutely delivered. Image quality is phenomenal, autofocus is awesome, and f/1.4 makes low light so much easier. You also get an aperture ring (de-clickable and lockable) plus a programmable button. I haven’t used the Sony 35mm G Master, but I genuinely can’t see it being worth $500 more when this Sigma performs this well—unless you just have money to burn.
