This video is all about the Sony a6400 and the big question: is it still worth buying in 2025 (I bought mine in 2024), and would I actually recommend it? I’ve been using the Sony a7 IV as my main photo/video camera for almost two years, so buying a 5-year-old crop sensor body might sound weird. But I kept shooting B-roll and thumbnails of my a7 IV on my phone, and I wanted better quality plus Sony RAW files that are way easier to work with in Lightroom than iPhone shots. I also wanted a smaller camera I could use with my existing full-frame lenses without spending a ton more money. On the photo side, the a6400 is still a beast. The 24MP files look really, really good, and honestly I can’t tell much difference versus my a7 IV in normal use. Autofocus is solid (eye AF isn’t as good as the a7 IV, and you don’t get bird/animal eye AF), and the compact body is a huge win for everyday shooting. On the video side, you get 4K 24/30 and surprisingly good quality—I shot S-Log2 and it grades easily—but slow motion is limited to 1080p. It’s missing pro features like dual card slots and a full-size HDMI, so it won’t replace my a7 IV, but as a sub-$1,000 beginner-friendly hybrid and a killer B-cam, it’s an easy yes.
