About This Video

This is literally the smallest space I’ve ever tried to film in—about a 9x7 ft room with just enough space for a desk, a chair, and me… barely. In this video, I walk you through how I turned that tiny office into a full-blown YouTube studio by focusing on the stuff that actually matters in a small room: layout, background design, lighting control, and clean audio. The biggest thing was camera angle—I shoot into the corner to create depth, because shooting straight into a flat wall just doesn’t look as good. Because it’s a lease, I didn’t want to paint or do anything too permanent, so I used AI (Google Gemini’s “Nano Banana”) to mock up different looks before spending any money. I landed on cheap black acoustic foam panels to turn the gray wall into a black wall fast, and then used an IKEA pegboard with a few shelves and fake plants to make the white wall look intentional—all for under about $100. From there it’s lighting: I kill the overheads, blackout the door window, and build the scene from scratch. I use my GVM LED with a softbox as the key, add warm practical lamps for that cozy vibe I’ve been liking lately, and finish it with a small rim light. The takeaway is simple: you don’t need more space—you just need to get creative with the space you already have.
