I’ve been posting YouTube videos consistently for almost two years, and even though I’ve made basically $0 (and honestly spent thousands), I can still say YouTube has changed my life. Going into it, I had almost no video experience—I just watched creators like Peter McKinnon, Maddy Hoo, and Matt D’Avella and thought, “I want my stuff to look like that.” What I didn’t realize is how much work happens behind the scenes, and how big the gap is between knowing something and being able to teach it clearly. Making tutorials forced me to find the holes in my own knowledge, because once you try explaining why you’re doing something, you realize how often you’re just operating on habit. It also pushed me to get comfortable on camera (my early videos are painful), and that confidence carries into real life—presentations, speaking, putting yourself out there. I also had to learn how to handle slow growth, criticism, and that grind where you’re putting hours into a video that gets under 100 views. But I genuinely think slow, progressive growth is valuable, because it gives you time to learn through trial and error. One quote that stuck with me is: “Failure is the currency that pays for future success.” If you stay consistent and you actually enjoy what you’re making, you’ll be way further ahead a couple years from now than you are today.
