If you’re trying to get slow motion shots and you’re confused about what frame rate to shoot at—and what to do in DaVinci Resolve (or Premiere) after—you’re not alone. I was super confused about this when I first started, so in this video I break it down into the only two things that actually matter: your camera frame rate (what you shoot) and your playback/timeline frame rate (what you edit on). Once you understand how those two work together, slow motion becomes really straightforward. I explain why I recommend shooting your “normal” YouTube footage at 24fps (25fps in Europe), and then switching to 60fps or higher when you want slow motion. In the editor, the key is setting your timeline to your base frame rate, then changing clip speed based on clean math—so your slow-mo stays smooth instead of choppy. For example, if I shoot 60fps and my timeline is 24fps, my go-to is 40% speed. I also cover the 180-degree shutter rule (shutter speed = 2x your frame rate) so motion looks natural, and why that usually means you’ll need an ND filter outdoors to avoid overexposure.
