In this video I’m testing the DJI Mini 5 Pro as the successor to the already fantastic Mini 4 Pro, and I’m mainly focused on the one upgrade I actually care about: the new 1-inch sensor. I knew going in it would be a great drone because the Mini 4 Pro already shoots great video and photos, but the real question was whether that bigger sensor makes as big of a difference as people say—and if it’s actually worth upgrading. To make it fair, I did side-by-side comparisons in two ways: mixing clips from both drones to see if you can tell which is which, and then matching similar shots from each drone. My takeaway is pretty simple: the Mini 5 Pro video quality is better, but the difference isn’t huge, and the Mini 4 Pro is still more than sufficient for YouTube. For photos, even though it’s 50MP vs 48MP, I honestly can’t tell a difference—both look fantastic and you’d be splitting hairs. I also talk pricing (especially in Canada), who should upgrade, and who should just grab a used Mini 4 Pro. Plus, I cover the new 2x “tele” video feature (software-based but surprisingly good), and the weird weight situation where some first-batch Mini 5 Pros are a couple grams over 249g—so you’re flying unregistered at your own risk depending on where you live.
