DaVinci Resolve has a free version and a Studio version that costs $295, and in this video I break down the features that actually make the paid upgrade worth it (at least for the kind of creator work I do). One of my favorite Studio-only tools is Magic Mask, because it makes selecting your subject or background insanely easy—draw a quick stroke and Resolve does the heavy lifting. From there, I can invert the selection, drop exposure on the background, add blur, or do selective color grading to make a talking-head shot look way more polished. I also talk about practical workflow wins like better 10-bit codec support (so you don’t have to waste time transcoding) and hardware acceleration—though I’m honest that on my MacBook Pro M1 Pro I didn’t notice a massive jump. Studio-only noise reduction is genuinely great when you need it, and lens correction saves a ton of time versus doing distortion fixes manually. If you’re making shorts, automatic captions are fast and usually accurate, and Speed Warp is a lifesaver when you need smooth slow motion from 24fps clips.
