I just feel like I had to say all of this stuff out loud at least once. I'm not trying to step on anyones toes with this video. About This Video

In this video I’m basically saying the quiet part out loud: the hip-hop music production world feels broken right now. I break down how we went from a producer-to-artist economy (DMing beat packs, working locally, building real relationships) to an insanely oversaturated market after 2020, when hundreds of thousands of new producers jumped in. A lot of people pivoted from selling beats to artists to selling producer-targeted products like loop kits, drum kits, and tutorials—and at first that worked because the market was booming. Then the competition got wild. Because most producer products are digital, they can be made once and sold forever, which pushes prices down and forces everyone into bundles, “production suites,” email lists, ads, and nonstop marketing just to keep up. On the buyer side, you’re getting spammed daily, and prices get undercut constantly—plus Black Friday discounts make anything you buy during the year feel like you overpaid. I also talk about how plugin releases are mostly recycled ideas, and why making good music isn’t even 10% of what it takes to succeed anymore. I’m not saying there’s no money in this space, but it’s harder than ever—and honestly, I’m tired of the commodification of the producer community.
