About This Video

With Omnisphere 3 dropping, one of the biggest upgrades to me is easily the brand-new effects rack. In this video I break down exactly how the Omnisphere FX rack works, how you load modules, reorder them, set dry/wet, and save your own custom rack presets. You get 93 different effect units and you can stack up to four in a single rack, so the combinations are basically endless. I also run through some of the factory presets on a simple piano so you can hear how crazy the reverbs and delays can get, and how natural the overall sound quality is. After that, I go deeper on five units I’m actually going to use: SuperVerb, Swiss Army Delay, Analog Studio Tape + Console, Half Speeder, and Flip Backward. I show the key controls (like pre-delay, filtering, drift/damping, noise types, tape speed, and the ducking feature) and how they help you get big space without washing out your melody. My overall take: the sound is really, really good and the standalone rack idea is dope, but the UI/UX feels outdated and has some annoying layout choices. If you’re upgrading to Omnisphere 3 anyway, these FX are worth it—if you’re buying Omnisphere just for the rack alone, $500 for that isn’t it.
