Using samples is one of the most controversial topics in music production, and in this video I break down why that whole “loops are cheating” mindset is just holding producers back. When I say “samples” here, I’m specifically talking about melody loops from loop kits. I walk you through four real reasons I actually encourage you to use loops: they get the idea going fast, they help you collaborate with other producers, they can level up your music (especially early on), and they’re literally something pros use every day. I show it in practice by cooking up two beats from two completely different loops. On the first one, I use the loop to instantly set the direction (hard trap), then I make it more “me” by modifying it—pitching it up two semitones, reversing every other bar for a switch-up, and using those changes to create a B section. On the second beat, I use stems so I can rearrange elements for a new intro, then I speed the whole thing up, pitch it around, and explain how I keep the 808 range under control by adjusting the melody pitch. The main takeaway: loops aren’t a shortcut to be ashamed of—they’re a tool to make better beats, explore new genres, and stay consistent like the industry does.
