About This Video

In this video I finally picked up the Hori Split Pad Pro for my Nintendo Switch (I went with the Midnight Blue color) and I break down why I’ve wanted one for so long—and why I’m genuinely impressed after using it. I go through the unboxing (it’s simple: controller + paperwork) and then focus on the stuff that actually matters: how it feels in-hand, how the buttons and sticks perform, and whether it’s worth the $49.99 price. The big win here is comfort and control in portable mode. The grips are surprisingly light for how big they look, the buttons are tactile and responsive, and the analog sticks feel like they have more room to travel, which helps a ton with accurate movement and aiming. You also get a real D-pad (immediately better than Joy-Cons for a lot of single-player games), plus assignable rear buttons (FR/FL) and turbo if you’re into that. Of course, there are trade-offs: no wireless, no HD rumble, and no amiibo support, and it’s basically not meant for tabletop kickstand play. But for portable Switch players—especially anyone tired of Joy-Con drift—I still recommend it as a must-buy as long as you’re okay giving up those features.
