About This Video

In this video I tested what I think are the two most interesting “hi‑res” Bluetooth options right now: Sony LDAC vs Qualcomm aptX Lossless. On paper, LDAC can hit 990 kbps and do 24‑bit audio, while aptX Lossless can reach around 1.2 Mbps in the most optimal scenario—but it tops out at 16‑bit. That little mismatch (higher bitrate but lower bit depth) is what made this comparison actually worth doing. I used Bluetooth IEMs that can run these codecs (and I used the same device where possible to keep things consistent), plus a small USB‑C Bluetooth transmitter dongle so I could even do this on my iPhone—because yeah, iPhone doesn’t support these high‑res codecs natively. After going back and forth, aptX Lossless was easily better for me. LDAC still sounded more compressed, while aptX Lossless sounded cleaner, clearer, and noticeably closer to wired lossless—more detail, better separation, and just an easier difference to hear than I expected. I also talk about the real-world trade-offs: if you need low latency for gaming, you shouldn’t be using these high‑res modes anyway—latency modes exist for a reason. But if your goal is “crispy” wireless audio quality, aptX Lossless is the one I’d pick right now.
