I liked the first Arete a lot for gaming, and the Arete 2 is pretty much a straightforward improvement across the board—so it ends up being an easy recommendation if you’re shopping in this lane. I break down what actually changed, how it fits, how the tuning switch works, and why the overall sound is more “normal” and studio-like compared to the original. The biggest upgrades are the build and accessories: a metal faceplate, a much better swappable cable (including balanced), and better tip selection. Sound-wise, the driver config is still 1DD + 4BA (with Knowles BAs), but the dynamic driver feels improved—more bass extension, faster, and more controlled. I also explain the tuning switch: off is cleaner and less bassy, on gives you extra midbass/lower-mids and pushes male vocals forward. For comparisons, I put it up against the Ziigaat Horizon (more V-shaped with more treble energy) and a few budget options like the Kiwi Ears Cadenza II and EPZ Q1 Pro. If you want a smoother, mid-range focused, easy-to-listen competitive set that won’t fry your ears with gunshots, the Arete 2 nails that.
