In this video I compared four Fostex headphones head-to-head and ranked them by what actually matters when you’re listening: bass, midrange, treble, and overall tuning. I put the Fostex T50RP MK4 up against the T60RP MK2 (semi-open and closed), and then stacked those planar options next to the flagship biodyna models (TH910/TH919). On paper you’d assume the $2K+ lacquered flagships win, but the results were honestly surprising. Build-wise, the T60RP MK2 feels like the “premium” version of the RP line with the wood cups and the suspension strap, while the T50RP MK4 is more budget-friendly plastic. Sound-wise, I found the T60RP MK2 semi-open to be the best tuned headphone on the table—fast, precise, and very close to what I’d call a studio sound. It keeps the bass quantity nicely thanks to that semi-open design, but still sounds more natural and forward in the mids than the more V-shaped TH910/TH919. If you want the most fun bass, the T60 closed hits hardest, but if you want the most accurate, speaker-like tuning, the semi-open T60RP MK2 is the one I’d pick.
